OVERVIEW

MY APPROACH

A creative network that houses events, communities, and resources for black women entrepreneurs within years 0 - 5. The founder Malliron Hodge wanted to redefine her business website to showcase all angles Baddies with Business has to offer for business owners. The current website struggled with showcasing brand credibility and proper user flow leaving consumers to emailing questions that weren’t acknowledged on the website.
I spearheaded this project by leading UI Design & UX Web Development. Controlling project management to abide by the project timeline and meeting agendas in a fully remote environment was a pivotal moment in my reflection. This project contained many challenges that needed attention.

challenge / pain points

Baddies with Business (BWB) is an event & community platform that connects black women business owners with like minded entrepreneurs. Having multiple applications that didn’t redirect to the website was inhibiting business growth & traffic flow while creating manual overflow to the owner. Baddies with Business didn’t have analytics connected to their website however or information pertaining to their current or previously held events. What we did have : Analytics from Eventbrite shows that new users BWB events drove traffic from social media platforms and google searches thus leading to the website being ineffective.

What's the Main Problem.

How could I guide new users through event set up & what information needed to be displayed for other services?

Key Research

  • I was able to conduct interviews with a couple of BWB consumers. For some these including understanding what interested them in the community, why some stayed in the community, and how the were introduced to their main community platforms.
  • I identified different personas based on business level & comfortability with online platforms. This internally helped understand how consumers processed the data in front of them & where they became stuck on the website.
  • After conversations with the founder on how the community should flow & how they want users to interact with the website I compared their thought processes to users pain point & against Baddies with Business competitors and how they resolved users frustration & smooth transitions. 
  • Prototyping the interface of the website included 3 participants ( current member, prospective users, and non-technical users) for usability & comfort level.
  1. The Lo- Fidelity iterations challenged users' interactions from page to page & content visual hierarchy. 

The High - Fidelity prototype tested everything inside of the Lo-Fi mockup + visual UI elements & content organization against copy

There wasn’t enough information & pages provided to give users visual cues to know everything Baddies with Business provides. Using user input & founders pain points I addressed points of friction through access to external applications to additional sources and developing content & forms that answered on-going questions for prospective & current users. This will help create higher conversation, reduce front-facing interaction, and increase brand credibility.

Baddie Directory ::

An internal database of black women entrepreneurs in their respective industries. Creating direct access to those looking to support & discover Black Women Business Owners.

Clarifying CTA Buttons ::

Creating intentional language around buttons for accessibility. The website redesign included a mild design system that highlighted the importance of user navigation. A key element in creating buttons included highlighting the color and motion contrast on active, hoover, and click response. 

FAQ Sections ::
  • The founder noticed many of the same questions centered around joining members & events. Developing a FAQ area that highlights those questions reduces redundancy & can become a go to for on-going questions. 
Composition ::
  • Guiding users eyes through effective use of macro & micro spacing. Reducing clutter to give users a primary focus. 
Attendee Check- In System ::
  • Creating an automatic system that calculates number of registered attendees without overwhelming BWB team members. Allowing for self-check reduces manual effort & increases analytic tracking.
